Fantastic Cover

I had two people who I trust tell me I needed to put my name on the cover and add more design elements to the cover. I'm not sure if this is the direction I want to go in, but this is how the cover would look if I put my name on it and made the design a bit more complicated. I'd love some feedback.

I like adding your name at the bottom, and the placement and color and white text look good too.

I don't like the placement of the author's names, though I like them being there--maybe two columns above the ball, or maybe put them in the ball, curved as if they're reflections on the ball or images inside it? Hmm...the more I think about it, the more I think I would like that latter option.

Speaking as a designer, I think the primary problem you have here is that you've got a very busy image which is really conceived only to have text at the top, and you're trying to fit too much in elsewhere.

On the other hand, I do think it's worth having author names and your name and credentials on there too.

Because you have got a complex image that takes up most of the space, you've got a whole lot of elements competing for attention with no real visual hierarchy. For example, the text treatment on your name is far too complex (too many different effects and colors) in order to try to grab attention.

You might try moving your name and credentials up to just below the title and use a smaller font and simpler text treatment. Then think about moving the names of the authors to the bottom. I'm not quite sure how well that would work without trying it.

Generally, I disagree with the idea of making the design more complicated; simplicity is definitely a better direction to go, but it is harder to get right.

It is fine but not quite there yet. To my eye it seems a bit off-balance. You have a fine piece of art to showcase the product, but the font choices and placement of text appears to need tweaking.

I don't have any qualifications for giving an opinion...but it looks pretty. ;-)
